Eclectic Cars & Coffee gathering
There was a nice mix of some unusual stuff at my local Cars & Coffee this weekend.
First up a pair of Ford GTs (2nd gen from 2005ish and 3rd gen from 2020ish) both in Gulf blue/orange livery. I feel the 3rd gen GT is under-rated as a design - it’s very dramatic in person with huge voids along the flanks and the flying buttresses. But it’s also clean and unfussy - compare it to any modern Lamborghini for example. While the 2nd gen was a warmed over version of the original, the 3rd gen was a thoroughly modern rethink, and really built for the track (it won at Le Mans).

Next, two JDM (Japan Domestic Market) cars, an old Datsun 2000 convertible that was clearly lowered and I’m sure upgraded in other ways. And a newer Nissan wagon, the Stagea. I’d never heard or seen of a Stagea before, and from a distance thought it was a Volvo wagon with its boxy shape. In fact it shares underpinnings with a Skyline, so it’s probably a quick car. This one looked purposeful but stealthy.

A modified VW bus in a fun color scheme.

A pale yellow Lancia Fulvia Zagato

Lastly, a humungous Oldsmobile Starfire. Check out that amazing dash! So over the top.
